]]> Southern Death Cult se formó en
1981, lanzando su único álbum homónimo
póstumamente en 1983. Ese mismo año, se formó el
Death Culy, con Astbury uniendo fuerzas con Duffy para
una asociación musical que ha perdurado durante más
de 40 años. La banda lanzó dos 12 pulgadas ese mismo
año, uno de los cuales fue el EP Death Cult, que
posteriormente fueron combinados y editados en CD.
Death Cult es una transmisión vital de la generación de
futuristas góticos post-punk chamánicos.
Death Cult se convirtió en The Cult en 1984, lanzando

Dreamtime ese mismo año. La seminal banda de post-
punk ha vendido más de cuatro millones de álbumes. Ian Astbury (voz) y Billy Duffy (guitarra)

han lanzado 11 álbumes de estudio a lo largo de los 40 años de carrera de The Cult. La banda,
apodados “góticos chamánicos” por la revista Classic Rock, encontraron renombre
internacional con el álbum de 1985, Love, que incluía el himno de rock “She Sells Sanctuary”,
así como el sencillo de seguimiento “Rain”. Electric llegó en 1987, con canciones como “Love
Removal Machine”, “Wild Flower” y “Lil’ Devil”).
